It's not quite quiet by any means, but it's certainly quieter than some. Some sources cite it at 75 decibels and others at 79... if you really want to get technical.
The diffuser attachment was then useless. Sometimes, the attachment's screw-in end becomes threadbare and doesn't attach anymore. I can remember how I duct taped an attachment to my old hairdryer. This did not work. These things won't happen with Dyson magnetic attachements. Attachments are for the whole family, it's attachments that last.
